L’Oreal Paris recruits Gwen Stefani

Rock star, fashion designer and yummy mummy, Gwen Stefani is definitely one of Hollywood’s brightest stars! And now the queen of style has only gone and landed herself a beauty campaign with cosmetic giant L’Oreal. Is there anything this woman can’t do?

Famous for her signature platinum locks, Gwen is the face of L’Oreal’s new Preference Hair Colour collection. Showing off her enviably glossy curls whilst saying the company’s now famous ‘cause you’re worth it’ mantra, the fashionista is clearly very comfortable following in the footsteps of former L’Oreal beauties such as the likes of Eva Longoria and Cheryl Cole.
On the announcement that Gwen was joining L'Oréal's A-list line-up, the pop starlet commented: 'I can’t believe I get to be one of the L’Oréal Paris girls. I love playing dress up, on stage or shooting videos; it’s always been one of my favorite parts of being in a band.'
Here’s a sneak peak of Ms Stefani’s new ad, let Catwalk Talk know what you think!

Catwalk Talk spoke to Tina Richardson, a hair dye specialist at Boots to pick up some handy tips on how to do the job!

So do you think it's a good idea to dye your hair using a home kit, or would it be better to go to a salon?

"Well obviously when you go to the hair dressers you're pretty much guaranteed that the results will be good, but there’s no reason why you can’t do it at home. It’s certainly far more cost effective, with most ranges pricing at about £5.00. However, it is not recommended to bleach your hair at home. It requires very strong products so it’s safer to go to a salon for that one.”

So what will the results be like?

“Home kits are designed to be applied yourself, but of course a little bit of assistance won’t hurt if you’re unsure. In my opinion, the results are almost always as good as going to a salon. I’ve been using home kits for years and I’ve always been very pleased with how it’s turned out. Of course there are different types of home kits that some might find easier to use, for example L’oreal has just released a mousse type dye. It’s specifically designed to be applied yourself, and it’s definitely the easiest way. It makes sure that you get full coverage on the hair and it’s a lot less messy.”

Is it true that hair due damages your hair?

“If you use it excessively it’s probably not the best solution, but all the brands are releasing kits that are ammonia free- meaning the chemicals are a lot less strong. The best advice I would give is to make sure you always do the allergy test 48 hours before dying your hair, there have been many cases where girls have skipped the test and damaged their hair in the long run.”
