Who would have thought that a see through dress could be sold at a whopping £78,000? But I guess that’s the price to pay when it’s been worn by Britain’s hottest property, Kate Middleton.
Ever since she came on the scene, Kate Middleton has shown that she is no stereotypical princess. Instead of ball gowns and tiaras, Kate has always favoured the styles straight off the catwalk -naming brands such as Issa and Mulberry as her favourites. Our modern day princess has become loved by the British public, not just for her character but for her willingness to experiment with her style. She even confessed to be a huge fan of high street brand Topshop after wearing one of their dresses to her 25th birthday party.
So it comes to no surprise to see that Kate had a bit of a fashion wild streak before her highly publicised relationship with Prince William.
A dress that was worn by Kate at a fashion show during her time at university was recently put up for auction alongside couture gowns belonging to the late Princess Diana and lingerie from the Duchess of Windsor Wallis’s Simpson’s collection.
Some might say the dress wasn’t exactly fit for a princess, being skimpy, see through and actually designed to be a skirt. The designer of the dress commented that it did not cost much to make, and that the worth of the dress rests more on its significance.
Kate wore the dress at a charity event at St Andrews University in 2002, the same night in which she met her future fiancée. William is said to have been smitten after seeing her modelling the dress earlier in the fashion show, in which he paid £200 to sit in the front row.
With just three weeks until the big day, the anticipation surrounding the royal wedding is at an all time high. And if a dress like this has managed to cause a stir, we can be almost certain that her actual wedding gown is going to be truly spectacular.
